One top-notch recommendation is the remarkable La Ferrade in Bordeaux, an idyllic spot just a 20-minute bus ride from the city centre. This B&B boasts impressive interior designs that indeed live up to the promise of valued comfort. An additional charm is its rustic homestyle breakfast - a culinary delight, which, along with the homemade marmalade, is often touted as the finest morning fare in France. Bordeaux, known for its cleanliness, friendliness, and warmth, often draws comparisons as a more intimate Paris.
But what truly sets La Ferrade apart is the congenial owner, Yolande, who is incredibly accommodating to guests and gladly assists in navigating Bordeaux city. Her restaurant recommendations and local insights are invaluable. Investment in such hospitable service reveals her commitment to provide an extraordinary experience to every guest, making their stay unforgettable. Comfortable accommodation, coupled with the warmth of a French home, starts at a competitive rate of €80 for a double.laferrade.com

Santa Clara Guest House, Coimbra, Portugal
We stumbled upon a gem in Europe! A blend of vintage flair and contemporary comforts greeted us in our generously proportioned room which boasted breathtaking views covering the ancient town, the revered university, and the serene Mondego river. Sofia was the epitome of authentic Portuguese generosity and warmth. Her handpicked selection of local eateries did not disappoint and the uncomplicated buffet breakfast was just to our liking. All of Coimbra’s cultural attractions were conveniently accessible on foot from our location. The B&B was situated just adjacent to Dos Pequenitos, an enchanting mini-park featuring scaled-down replicas of houses and monuments that represented the architectural richness dotted across Portugal, Madeira, and the Azores.
Enjoy a comfortable stay starting at approximately €60 for a double room and keep up with us on our delightful journey through Facebook.

Iris, Alaverdi, Armenia
Despite the unassuming nature of Alaverdi city, it serves as a gateway to glorious monastic complexes in its vicinity and as a quaint respite spot for tourists crossing borders between Armenia and Georgia. If you find yourself on a balcony gazing at the picturesque Debed gorge, you've reached Iris, an ideal first sojourn in Armenia from Georgia or a last restful spot before venturing on.
Your hostess, Irina, is not merely that - she transforms into a magical kitchen fairy whose spreads of handmade breakfast essentials - from flavorful butter to velvety jams and fluffy pancakes - become an unparalleled delight in the wee hours. Taking her role of a hostess a notch higher, she even charters tours of UNESCO-endorsed monasteries, Sanahin and Haghpat, along with the captivating Akhtala and Kobayr, their spiritual energy almost palpable in the air invariably making you feel more grounded and connected.
At some point during your stay, ensure you indulge in the authentic Armenian dinner, an optional extra curated by Irina, that takes you on a fantastic culinary journey indicative of Armenia's rich gastronomy. This experience is just as enriching as the visit to the monasteries, just on a completely different spectrum.

Halvat, Sarajevo, Bosnia
Welcoming, warm, and snug, Halvat B&B is a stone's throw away from the historic quarter of Sarajevo. Customer service is unparalleled, providing users with a breakfast timetable designed around personal preferences and convenience. The helpful onsite staff is ever-ready to coordinate transportation to your preferred destinations. The proprietor, Valida, consistently extends a heartwarming welcome; her familiar warmth was evident when she fetched me from the train station during my second visit, escorting me through the city's history. I've made four memorable visits so far, and the affordable room rates have remained incredibly consistent.
Adding to the charm of the Halvat, my last trip included an unforgettable day-long tour of the local market, courtesy of Valida. The tour ended with a delightful dinner at her highly recommended ćevapi (a traditional Bosnian kebab) spot. This distinguishing experience has set a high bar for all other B&Bs, perhaps admittedly unfair.
For some European charm, consider staying at the Halvat. Prices for a double room start at €45.Visit their website at halvat.com.ba for more information. This recommendation comes from Sarah McLellan, a seasoned traveller who has benefited from the B&B's heartwarming hospitality and unbeatable value.

Pension Herbert, Salzburg
When it comes to European city B&Bs, it's all about the essentials such as inviting beddings, efficient shower facilities, and a morning meal that tantalizes your taste buds. However, the real experience is often determined by the host. A great host can transform your stay into a memorable sojourn. We fondly remember our host, Herbert, for the unforgettable experience he provided. A perfect blend of knowledge and pride for his city, he couldn't help but exude warmth and enthusiasm for his surroundings. Boasting multiple language skills and a genuine welcoming nature, he dedicated himself to making our brief visit as fulfilling as possible. We observed that he treated each guest with special attention, offering personalized advice based on their preferences and necessities. Toledo Station B&B, Naples
On the Via Toledo in the city centre, this is a friendly and fun place to stay. Each room is themed around a different world city – and the owners’ care and sense of humour are apparent in all the little details. The location is brilliant – great for seeing the sights of the city centre and minutes away from all the best Neapolitan pizza and ice-cream.
