Swim Meet

BY JENNIFER JACKSON BERRY

I dab like perfume chlorine
behind ears & knees, at my elbows

at the crooks. I stole
the lanes last night.

We’re all in the same pool now.
I open underwater.

Thumbs hooked in your cheeks,
I make you open

your mouth, I make you love
that trick of the body,

that trickle of blood,
that taste of me.

Jennifer Jackson Berry’s first full length collection of poetry The Feeder is forthcoming from YesYes Books in 2016. Her poems have most recently appeared in journals such as The Paterson Literary Review, Red Paint Hill Poetry Journal, and Whiskey Island, among others.
