We’re eager to share “Spring Issue: Number Seventeen” with you. We’ve spent a good deal of effort revamping Hot Metal Bridge this semester—we’ve re-branded our site, included more writing in our table of contents and a variety of new perspectives and voices from around the country. We’ve also decided to experiment a little by illustrating a few pieces in Atavist’s storytelling platform.
In the past, this magazine has been produced by a handful of graduate students in the University of Pittsburgh’s MFA writing program and usually involves a herculean effort from a few overworked editors at the end of the semester. This issue, however, is the product of new class run here at the university, where we’ve coordinated the efforts of our undergraduate writing students, our graduate students, and our usual band of loyal MFA readers and editors. We’re very pleased with the results.
We’d like to give a special thanks to William Lychack and Geeta Kothari, who helped guide our efforts; to Ali L’Esperance, who designed our new logo; to Destiny Johnson, who anchored our social media team; and to the ceaseless optimism, gumption, and moxie of all the newest members of our Hot Metal Bridge family: our Pitt undergraduates. And, lastly, we’d like to thank you, dear reader, for choosing to spend time with the wonderful writing we’re happy to have discovered this spring.
